2026 Ontario Driving Test Tips: What Every New Driver Must Know

Name: Young Star Driving School
Price range: $

Last Updated: March 2026 As of March 2026, the Ministry of Transportation Ontario has made no changes to the graduated licensing system. The rules stay simple: pass the vision and knowledge test for your G1, complete 8–12 months of supervised practice, pass the G2 road test, drive another 12 months, then take the Full G test. At Young Star Driving School in Toronto and Thornhill, we turn these rules into first-time passes with structured lessons and real-road practice. Examiners still focus on defensive driving, clear observation, and safe habits.

G1 Knowledge Test 2026

The G1 written test follows the official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Study these core topics:

Right-of-way rules
Traffic signs and pavement markings
Seatbelt and passenger safety laws
Zero blood-alcohol rules for new drivers
Sharing the road with cyclists, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles

Our MTO-approved BDE course explains how these rules work in real traffic.

G2 Road Test Must-Do’s

Examiners check safe, consistent driving on city roads. Avoid these common fails:

Complete stops at every stop sign (no rolling)
Clear blind-spot checks with visible head turns
Smooth turns into the correct lane
Proper speed in school zones and residential areas
Safe lane changes with full mirror checks
Strong observation at intersections

Practice on actual Toronto and Thornhill routes in our dual-control cars to build confidence.

Full G Test Focus

The Full G test emphasizes highway driving and quick decisions. Key skills tested:

Safe merging and lane changes on 400-series highways
Correct highway entry and exit
Maintaining safe following distance
Consistent speed control and full observation

No parallel parking is required.

Why BDE Still Wins in 2026

Our MTO-approved Beginner Driver Education course delivers real advantages:

Shortens the G1-to-G2 wait from 12 months to 8 months
Builds defensive driving habits that prevent tickets and accidents
Offers structured practice instead of trial-and-error
May qualify you for insurance discounts
